Weirdest in person interview ever!

I was contacted by an Insight Global recruiter about a job I applied to that was posted online. The telephone interview went well. The recruiter was impressed by my background and experience and stated that I would be a good fit for this position. It got a little weird when she stressed that I'd need to submit two management level references before proceeding to the next step. This was a strange request because in the past I have submitted references to the hiring manager not the recruiter. The in person meeting did not last more than 10 minutes and did not cover anything that had not already been discussed on the phone. I felt as if they wanted to see how "pretty" I am so they could decide whether I was worthy of being presented to employers. The interviewer gave me a code to use for an online application that I was to proceed to fill out. I have already filled out an application when I applied online. Again, all of this could have been done via email and phone. My photo is with my email and my LinkedIn profile so it made no since for them to want to see me in person at this point. I really don't know what the purpose of this meeting was. One of the other reviews on this website stated that the recruiters for Insight Global justify their time at work by scheduling unnecessary meetings with job seekers. If that is so, it just *** me off even more. Job hunting is already stressful enough without the added pressure of navigating through traffic to be on time for a bogus meeting. Not to mention the expense and risk of accidents and or traffic fines. I will not be filling out the application because I now think it is just a way for them to further suck information out of me. Information that can be used as leads for Insight Global and not to find me a position.

Insight global Contact experience

I was hired for a contract with this company. Towards the end of the contract I was looking for jobs and the recruiter holistically asked me to hold off on my job search until the contact ended (just in case the company chose to extend). He told me that insight global would work full force to get me an offer. Ever since the contact ended there has been no communication. This seems a bit unfair to make empty promises. Especially because I cannot afford to be unemployed for more than a week.

These so-called recruiters constantly call me to let me know of "a great job opportunity" that is suited for my skills and they have my resume. Each recruiter in their office doesn't know enough to discuss any job opportunity that they say they have for my skills.

Ask them a question for the interview prep, and not one recruiter can follow through with an answer to elaborate on the job req.

Also, no one in this office conveys any information onto another recruiter about anything and I KEEP receiving *** recruiter calls from this same office and for supposedly yet another job req someone else may have come across, and sometimes, the exact same req., but a different recruiter contacting me about it not knowing I was just contacted by a recruiter in their office for that same job req.

Red Flags I should've noticed dealing with I.G. in Brentwood, TN

The pay the recruiter gave me over the phone was over $6 LESS per hour than the pay would be if I was hired by the client. During the interview at the I.G. office, the recruiter gave me a different pay rate than what she said over the phone, I corrected her and she looked disappointed. I was filling out the application at the I.G. office, I could hear other I.G. employees in another room; there was loud music playing, lots of laughing and loud conversations like a "party". I interviewed with the client, I.G. had changed my resume; deleted my address, phone number, email, and resume title; the interviewer asked me what position I was interviewing for, I told her I.G. sent me to interview for the "xxx" position, and she looked really confused.

If you read the IG employee reviews at glassdoor, they admit they try to get you to take the lowest rate possible because that is more commission for them.

Let me start by saying I am a hiring manager in the technology field and have deal with very professional recruiting firms in the past. Insight Global, however, will never see mine or my associates business again. To summarize: Young and inexperienced recruiters that follow an obviously scripted process whose ultimate goal is to land them new accounts at expense of candidates and client's time-wasting. Job hunters need to provide references before even being submitted for consideration. Clients must answer dumb questions full of second intentions. Candidates, don't waste your time with these people. Hiring managers, you'll have better luck on Craigslist.

They want that information because no sooner have you walked out the door than do they get on the phone, trying to drum up business, using the information you innocently provided. Oh, and the reason they are so young is because IG only hires fresh from college graduates because they will work for cheap and can be easily molded to their ways. Think about it: your recruiter's previous work history may well have been server at Red Lobster..

Hi there,

I just received a call from insight Global and the lady was personable. ...but like other people saying that the recruiter asked for managers references.

....this question was asked of me too...I did not give the name because I wanted to ask my old manager first....then I Google searched insight Global and found comments about them asking about references when they call......glad I did....I will not be wasting my precious time with them. .......thank God for google.

Don't give them your managers' contacts unless you have an offer in hand !

Standard recruiting practice (at least in Canada) is to check references AFTER successful interview. If they are asking for manager's contact before even sending you to the interview, they just want sales leads, there is no job for you. They called me that they have matching opportunity .. no job description, no precise location, no contact duration. They claim that they found my resume online, yet they do not see it since their computer is 'rebooting' Quick chat about experience quickly turns to names of former managers. They want you to spell out the names on the first call ... no details about the job yet. I told them that 'this is the manager who hired me' and you can hear excitement in their voice. A bit late but thats when red flag light up for me.

Bait and Switch

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I've been called by their newer local office in St. Louis 3 times now. Was told they submitted me for a job that was a great fit for me, but needed me to come in. I did, and was told that the position was just filled, the young woman I spoke to was very uncaring, and seemed to be only interested in getting me in there for her own commission purposed of having me show up. She has another position she is submitting me for, but can't tell me anything about it?????

A friend of mine that I worked for was phoned for a reference on me before I even left their EMPTY office, and after he gave me a raving reference they tried to recruit him to use their services.

DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS COMPANY, IT IS A SCAM, THEY CAN NOT EVEN AFFORD TO HAVE A RECEPTIONIST AT THEIR FRONT DESK, THEY JUST LEAVE A NOTE ON THE DESK TO PICK UP THE PHONE THERE, SOMEONE IN THE BACK PICKS IT UP AND TELLS YOU THAT THEY WILL BE WITH YOU SHORTLY, AND THEN YOU SIT THERE FOR 10 MINUTES; WHEN THERE ARE NO OTHER CLIENTS ANYWHERE IN THE VICINITY.

IT IS A COMPLETE SCAM, DON'T LOWER YOURSELF TO THEIR LEVEL; IF YOU ARE A PROFESSIONAL, YOU WILL BE DISMAYED ALSO.

LOL ITS TRUE! I had interviewed at the toronto office and i do not like the fact that this company has a phone for the receptionist for anyone to pick up.

I know its a tiny detail but I want to be proud of the company I represent and I'm sure other companies wouldn't even consider the first point of contact for clients being an empty room with a single phone beside a notepad saying dial ____ and we'll be right there. too funny lol.

Guest

Some positions get filled within a day or two. They may have originally called you about it and then it gets filled...

Or pulled by the client... or put on hold by the client... at anytime. Stop freaking out.

There's no need for a receptionist because they don't have anything for a receptionist to do.. unless it is to greet maybe the ten people that go in to meet the recruiters in person.

Guest

It's so true. I complaint to their VP 2 years back but nothing really happened.

It's really a bait that they are trying by asking the references. Guess how many? 3-5. They contacted my Manager two years back and asked if they had any new job openings.

They came back again and said they need contacts for all the Mangers that I have been interviewing.

I refused to provided. I am planning on going to Better Business Bureau.

Guest

Thank you for your experience and comments. I was contacted by an office in Scottsdale AZ and told me same thing about position being filled.

I wasn't impressed with phone interview and cancelled appointment to come into their office. It's all about getting you into their office for commission as you mentioned.

Will never use or recommend service. Thanks

They definitely don't make commission from having someone come in for a preliminary interview. They just want to meet you in person to make sure that you are presentable and professional.

Sending someone to interview with a client without ever having met them is extremely risky.

Sometimes positions do get filled very quickly - that's obviously the goal of a staffing firm. Other times, however, recruiters will call you knowing that you probably aren't right for the job but still want to talk to you in case of future opportunities. Or to try to get your references, past managers, etc.

so they can try to set meetings with those people. Shady, but that's pretty much how it goes in the staffing business.

Mishandled & Mislead

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Took 2 months to get me into position after I had been hired. Had to keep contacting them for next step & oftentimes multiple requests to get response. Had me running back & forth to get background check & other foundational efforts completed, as they didn’t know what the process actually entailed. This meant a number of unnecessary [lengthy] trips to various locations for nothing. I visited w/ employer 1st day & saw it wasn’t good fit. Shared w/ employer (good company & staff) that I wouldn’t take the role. IG then bugged me to file for full day payment – so they could bill the employer. This persisted & I had to insist they stop as I saw it as unethical to charge the employer for a literal meeting.

IG not terribly different from the many realtor-esque recruitment entities these days. IG is very cliché presence of such piranha organizations. Serve as little more than an unpleasant employment parasite obstacle for industry & talent to necessarily negotiate. Pronounced air of entitlement among IG staff making swallowing the fact they were stealing 30% of my income over the next 6 months even more difficult. Do little more than get in the way of any good process, bring donuts & take massive sums of your money.

I’ve never written such a review. IG bugged me to write a positive review for them on Glassdoor before they even got me into new position. Literally asked me to write positive review & send to them for review before posting – & they didn’t even have me working, yet! This is ironically the main reason for my posting this. NOT a good experience.

Refuse to help

This company is awful in the ways of tech recruiting. They never answer my calls, nor have they sent me a single position in the way of tech support. They are awful. I have been trying to get work from them now for over 3 months. The 2 jobs that they suggested for me are no where near my career set. It is kind of unbelievable that this is supposedly the #3 tech recruiter in the nation. I am new to the Austin area, which is supposed to be a huge tech start up scene, but on all accounts, Insight has fell far short of expectations. If you are looking for a recruiting service DO NOT USE INSIGHT GLOBAL!!!

Insight Global is the worst agency you could go with. They are only desperate to make a commission. I am not happy with their unprofessional attitude and inability to help you as a job seeker. I have them calling me and saying that I am only a good fit for one company they work with. I basically insulted about my resume. Not only that, but their ability to call you back is terrible, and it is a totally unprofessional atmosphere. I got so mad at them, I withdrew my resume and asked them to never call me again.

Insight global, not a good place to work

I recruiter called me relentlessly to get me to take a job in Titusville, NJ. he would call me at all hours, 6am, 6:30am, 10pm, 11pm.

telling me over and over how I would be a great fit for this role. I kept telling him its too long of a commute, I want something closer. Eventually I gave in. Usually recruiters will email you the documentation to sign, but they insisted I drive up to Morristown to sign.

When I was handed the paperwork the salary rate on the papers was $3 less per hour than I was quoted over the phone, the recruiters response "ohh this is what I quoted you, I never told you anything else" I signed anyway, a low salary is better than none.

The job was supposed to be 6 months long, I was there 3 days "A change of direction" I was told. I called the on site supervisor, he said "there was no change, insight said you were no longer available"

Poor courtesy and etiquette

I had the same experience recently with the San Diego office. My two recruiters were Kory and Morgan. They called saying that they had a match for my resume. I had a phone interview with both of them. Kory asked me to come in to the office. I live in the north county and drove 34 miles, during my lunch time. I was shuffled into a small room and given a application form to complete. I received a email for a interview and was given the location and time and told that Morgan would meet me there. I was also told that Morgan would contact me to prep for the interview. I never received the call. In fact when I called her, she was coughing on the phone and sounded pretty sick. Excused herself and said she would call back. No call back. So the following morning I showed up for the interview 30min early. I was told that I would be the second interview for that morning, yet when I arrived Morgan was not there. Called Kory to let her know that I had arrived. She called Morgan, who then called me to say that she was on her way and to wait for her in the lobby. After the interview Morgan and I spoke briefly. She said she would contact me when she's heard back from the interviewer. It's been 10 days now. No one called. No email updates. No replies to my email inquiries or call my 4 call messages i left with their screeners. Now she's always unavailable. I too feel like they've wasted my time and now have abandoned me. A little bit of courtesy and etiquette is all I ask. Just let me know either way.

This particular office in San Diego has a negative review on yelp. If you click on the reviews not recommended, they are all 5 star reviews, all written at pretty much the same time.

Let's look at the dates: Two raving reviews written within between 4/29 and 5/3. One review written 3/27 and then three were written 2 days previously on the same date of 3/25.... Another two glowing reviews written just the day before that on the 24th....Four more glowing reviews written in February, between the 3rd and the 18th. What these 5 star reviews all have in common, besides being written basically at the same time, is that they were written by people with little or no previous reviews on yelp.

In other words, brand new accounts! Additionally, with one exception, no one has a profile picture. Nearly everyone on yelp has a picture of some sort. As pointed out, ALL of the 5 star reviews were sent to the not recommended section!

If you read the actual reviews, they all sound too bubbly and extremely fake.

I personally believe they are fake reviews and I find it sad and disturbing that a company would submit fake reviews about themselves. My suggestion to a company that would do something so unethical is they work harder on their level of service and professionalism and they won't have to resort to something this desperate!

When they get someone a job, they often ask the person to write a review about their experience. So a lot of the reviews are real and are from people who just got new jobs through IG.

Guest

Same thing happened to me. The recruiter found me on linked in and said i looked good on paper and that he wanted me to come in for an interview...

I did three rounds of interviews and met with the CEO thinking that I had the job in the bag considering the recruiter said everyone I met with said great things about me and that I was a good fit for the job. They said they would let me know that afternoon and I didnt hear anything back... So I emailed the recruiter thanking him again for his time and to please let me know if there was any additional info he needed. He responded days later saying they filled the position...

WHAT? How could I have made it that far and they chose someone else?

I am furious because it seemed like a legit job that I could actually see myself doing. So upset and feel like ive been scammed.

reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-1125735

IG actually got you multiple interviews with the company, which is all they can do. If the company opted not to hire you, that's not the recruiter's fault. I do agree that they should have notified you sooner.

Wow! You really are an entitled, self-important person!

Most likely, you were in the top 5 contenders, but they apparently decided to go with a more suitable candidate. I am not sure why you believe the job was yours, just because they said nice things about you. I am sure the other top candidates were being told similar things.

You must be new to the workplace, so let me be the first to tell you: what you experienced is VERY COMMON! Get use to it!
