This inconsiderate and unprofessional company called me for a job in Huntington Beach, CA that they said that I was "qualified" for. They wanted me to send my resume right away.

The job was at a major point of sale beauty industry company that was looking for a customer service position that could speak French. I spoke German. I got multiple calls from Insight Global from Monday-Wednesday saying that they and the employer were interested in me for this position. First it was the hiring manager Ally, then Lexi, and then I talked to Preston who said he would be taking over my case.

I told him the salary I wanted $20 an hour and he was agreeable on the phone. Then I call back and Lexi said that she is handling my case, and that the position paid $19.13. Then on Wednesday I was scheduled to come in for the required in-person meeting. I got off of work at 3:30pm and went there for my meeting at 4:30pm braving the 405 that had a lot of traffic.

I meet this girl "Lexi", and she took my resume and my recommendation letter from my employer and my resume. They did not care that I had to drive in stop and go traffic from Irvine back to Long Beach. "Lexi" not her real name then said that I have a phone interview with the employer at 2pm tomorrow. I explained to her that I am working during that time, and that I would have to ask my employer to take time off.

She did not care and insisted that I am available at 2pm, and that they have 8 positions open. Also, I did not want my employer to know that I am looking for a job, so this was highly inconvenient for me, but like a fool I believed that I would get a phone interview at 2pm Friday 4/29/2016. So I take the time off and I am 5 minutes early. So, 2pm rolls around on a Friday and I receive no call.

I wait until 2:15pm, and call the employment agency and they said that they would call the hiring manager and that I would receive a call. Then 2:30pm rolls around and no call back from them about the phone interview or even an explanation of what happened. "Lexi" said that this is out of character for the hiring manager to ditch a phone interview. I found it odd, that when I called in the agents said that "Lexy" was busy while I was waiting for my phone interview.

I did not even get a phone call back that was promised, so I go back to work. I send an e-mail when I get in and "Lexi" said that the hiring manager did not get back to them, and she apologized for the inconvenience, and that she would get back to me first thing Monday morning. Well, Monday morning rolls around and I get absolutely no telephone call from them all day. I call her and she said that she did not hear anything from the hiring manager, and she has no date to reschedule a phone interview.

Today is Wednesday, and no phone call to tell me no I did not get the job, or they found more qualified applicants. I should have known that as a person of color when I met her and shook her hand she uneasily looked away, and that I was wasting my time. I am shocked at the rotten and unprofessional treatment that I experienced from this company.

It would have been a common courtesy to tell me that the interview is called off, or I did not get the "job". I worked for a major electronics manufacturer in Irvine, and I believe they wanted to have my reference as an excuse to drum up business, and that they had absolutely no interest in finding me a job!

Let's begin a class action lawsuit

It is totally possible that the recruiter was stringing you along and trying to hit her numbers, but it is also very possible that the hiring manager really did flake. I used to work at IG, and that kind of thing happened all the time.

While working there, I never saw or heard even the slightest bit of racism.

It is, however, a VERY shallow company. I'm sure you noticed when you visited the office that everyone is young and attractive.

Literally almost no exceptions. So they definitely do pay attention to the way candidates look and present themselves.

How do you know this Lexi woman doesn't look away awkward when she meets people in general? Some people are like that and if she is young and working her first professional job, it would make sense she may be socially awkward.

Why are you claiming racism when in reality, you've no clue. I think you are just mad they wasted your time are you are trying to "punish" this person. If I were Lexi, I would be looking into my legal options, i.e. suing you for libel.

You call out an employee by name and make a serious accusation against them, yet conveniently post as anonymous! That is pretty lame.

LMAO! Looks like Shaye got a rise out of you! Do you often lose your cool, like when you are on interviews?

I was on your side until you brought up race. You are judging Lexi to be a racist based on the color of HER skin.

Think about that for a moment! Now, having said that, I will tell you that IG mainly hires fresh from college grads who have no background in staffing and recruiting. For many, this is their first professional job and for some it is their first job, period.

Also, they do indeed use applicant references as a means to gain new clients. You can read all about that at glassdoor, where former and current IG employees have left reviews and discuss this practice.

No one has to be on my side at all, and I do not expect them to be, but they do not have the right to lie and pretend to have or offer something that they do not have. Definitely they did not, and I expect a bare minimum of respect like not telling me a bold faced lie about a job that does not exist just to meet a quota.

It was not the color of her skin that I was worried about it was the color of my skin and the way she reacted to it and me that tipped me off. It was that cold and superficial feeling that I get so often from people that pretend to be comfortable. You shake someones hand and they look to the side or the floor, and not in your eyes. I get that all the time.

I should have known that they were not going to find me a job. The company looked legitimate. Lesson learned.

I got to vent my frustration and I am satisfied that this review will spread the word, and I got my story out there that someone else does not fall into this trap. I cannot abide by being scammed, and I am still mad that these people wasted my time, money, and twisted my hope at finding a good job close to my house on purpose just to meet a quota.
